Nudgee Real Estate
Nudgee is a residential suburb located 13km north of the Brisbane CBD. This charming suburb is easily accessed by train and is much loved by its residents, thanks to its many parks and services. The name is thought to derive from an Aboriginal word meaning ‘wild or black duck’. Originally it encompassed the suburbs of Banyo and Boondall, which is why some of Nudgee’s historic buildings are now located within the new areas.
Nudgee History
Nudgee originally included the areas known today as Banyo and Boondall, which is why schools and colleges in those suburbs take Nudgee’s name. Thanks to plentiful water supplies from Nudgee Waterholes and Nundah Creek, early Nudgee was home to many farms in the 1860s, as well as the Toombul Vineyard.
Nudgee has been the site of several religious institutions, including the Pius XII Seminary that opened in 1941. Nudgee Cemetery is the largest private cemetery in Brisbane, operated by operated by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Brisbane. An Aboriginal bora ring with an outer diameter of 21 metres is located next to the Waterholes.

Nudgee is close to many great activities for the whole family. “Stufflers at Banyo” is like a mobile Build-A-Bear, and absolutely perfect for kids’ parties and family events with lots of little ones to keep happily busy.
Many parks add a splash of green and outdoor recreation to Nudgee’s profile. Of the dozen or so parks in Nudgee, the most well equipped are Nudgee Waterhole Reserve, Redway Street Park, Showground Park, St Vincent’s Road Park and Wilhelmine Kruger Park. Each of these has a picnic area and playground, and some even offer a basketball half-court, barbecues, water taps, pathways and more.
Nudgee Beach offers protection for migrating bird colonies attracted to the wetlands and coastal conditions. Considered one of the best dog beaches in Brisbane , pet lovers will enjoy watching their loved ones romp in a dedicated swim area. Bike enthusiasts can enjoy the concreted cycleway which is easily accessible from neighbouring suburbs Boondall, Toombul and even as far as Mitchelton.
